Poppy Seeds

For thousands of years, poppy seeds have been harvested from dried pods of the poppy plant. The opiate component of the plant disappears once the seeds have grown, making them safe for consumption.

Poppy seeds are mainly used in the culinary world for their crunchy texture and unique flavor. They are usually added to bagels, breads, puddings, cakes and pies. At the nutritional level, they contain a considerable amount of linoleic acid, omega-6 fatty acid, iron, phosphorus, large amounts of dietary fiber, calcium, iron, copper and magnesium.
